RF Microneedling Aftercare: First 7 Days + Sun & Sweat Tips

Downtown Lawrenceville, Historic Courthouse Square area
If you loved that we explain things step by step and keep you comfortable, this part matters just as much. The single most important RF microneedling aftercare rule is simple: keep your skin clean and calm, and avoid sweat and direct sun for at least 48 to 72 hours. In Lawrenceville, that usually means planning around humidity, heat, and errands so you are not tempted to “just squeeze in” a workout or end up in full sun right after your appointment.
First 24 hours after RF microneedling: keep it clean, hands off
Right after RF microneedling, your skin is doing a lot of work. It often looks pink to red, and it can feel warm or tight. That is normal. What helps most is staying gentle and leaving your skin alone.
Quick checklist (Day 0 to Day 1): Clean hands only, no picking or rubbing, avoid hot showers, and keep products simple and fragrance-free.
What we generally recommend you do
- Use a gentle cleanser if you need to wash, and pat dry. No washcloth or cleansing brush.
- Use a bland moisturizer to keep tightness down. The goal is comfort and hydration, not “active” ingredients.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase and keep your phone off your face.
What to skip in the first 24 hours
- Makeup, especially heavy foundation and powders.
- Retinoids, exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA), vitamin C serums, scrubs, and fragranced products.
- Hot yoga, saunas, hot tubs, and anything that makes you sweat or flush.
48 to 72 hours: sweat and sun are the two fastest ways to sabotage results
This is the window we care about most. When skin is still healing, sweat and heat raise the risk of irritation, breakouts, and unwanted pigment. And in Downtown Lawrenceville, the summer air can feel like a sauna on its own. If you are doing Courthouse Square events or you are outside with kids, plan shade and breaks.
Sweat rule: We want 48 to 72 hours with no workouts, no saunas, no hot tubs, and no heavy outdoor activity. If you accidentally sweat, rinse gently, pat dry, and get back to a calm routine.
Sun is the other big one. We generally recommend avoiding direct sun for at least 2 weeks. That does not mean you are stuck indoors, but it does mean you need a plan. A wide-brim hat and shade matter, especially if you are driving along the I-85 corridors and the sun hits one side of your face every day.
If you are scheduling around an Aurora Theatre show or weekend plans near the Historic Courthouse Square area, a late-afternoon appointment can make the first night easier. Less daytime heat. Fewer accidental sun hours.
Days 3 to 7: dryness, rough texture, and light peeling are common
A lot of people get nervous on days 3 to 7 because the “glow” can take a back seat to dryness. That is usually your skin turning over. You might feel a sandpapery texture, see little flakes, or notice your redness fading in stages. Keep it simple and consistent. And please do not pick.

If you peel: treat it like a healing sunburn. Moisturize, don’t exfoliate, and keep showers lukewarm.
- Skip scrubs, acids, and retinoids for the full week.
- Avoid facials, waxing, and extra heat until we clear you.
- Keep sunscreen in your routine once your skin has closed and is not raw.
This is also when people tend to “test” makeup again. If your skin still feels tender, wait. We would rather you give it one more day than trigger irritation that lingers.
Your aftercare routine: gentle cleanser, bland moisturizer, mineral SPF
You do not need a complicated routine after micro needle therapy. Simple wins.
Cleanse
Go fragrance-free and gentle. Use cool to lukewarm water. Pat dry.
Moisturize
Choose a “boring” moisturizer for a week. No tingling. No actives. Comfort is the goal.
Protect
Once your skin is healed on the surface, use a mineral sunscreen and physical protection. Hat, shade, and avoiding midday sun help a lot.
If you are acne-prone or sensitive, tell us before your session so we can steer you toward a recovery routine that stays calm and does not trigger congestion. We do a lot of acne and texture work here, and we take “reactive skin” seriously.
When to call us in Lawrenceville (and when it’s just normal healing)
Normal healing usually looks like redness that fades day by day, a tight or dry feeling, and maybe some light peeling. What we do not want is a situation that is getting worse instead of better.
- Redness that is not improving or lasts longer than 7 days
- Increasing pain, significant swelling, pus or discharge
- Fever or any widening skin breakdown
"The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, peaceful, and clean."
